Isometric Sketching

Part of our Portfolio project is to create a beautiful pictorial sketch of your project. In order to do this, you will have to learn a 3D sketching system called Isometric drawing.
Click on this link to take you to a power point in Google docs that will show you the basics of Isometric drawing and sketching
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1f2Qk0IHjnyYCBWs7BAM4CdQ5NmP_hSToyJ4Di7VZh2Q/edit?usp=sharing

Materials Needed:
  • Isometric grid paper
  • pencil
  • Gw3 Computers

Thursday, September 12, 2013

  1. This is the development drawing of the portfolio project. Use Grid paper, a ruler, pencil, and black pen to draw this development. Count every grid square side as equal to 1 inch. So, for example 12 grid square lengths will be equal to 12 inches. Copy even the notes as neatly as possible. Take your time and do a nice job!!
  2. Start by drawing in pencil so you can erase mistakes. When it is done, raise your hand to have the teacher look it over.
  3. Next go over the dotted lines, the solid lines, and the center lines in pen ( use the ruler again)
Finally go over the notes and dimensions.
  4. This image will help you to count the number of grids
  5. If you mess up your paper, then come and get another piece. This must be done neatly in order to earn an A

Designing and making nameplates for your portfolio's

The next step in the Portfolio Project…

Designing nameplates for your Portfolio

Teaching Point: Use graphic communication software and skill to design a method to identify your project work portfolio through the design of 4 personalized nameplates

A short demonstration will be given to get you started but this assignment is mostly about you using your creativity to design and print a personalized nameplate
Tools

  • The Gw3 Computers
  • Any graphic communication software or web tool that you know how to use examples being:
    • Microsoft word, power point, and publisher, Adobe photoshop,  Prezi, or any other printable graphic communication software
  • The Gw3 Printer

Materials: There will be two to five different colors of paper depending upon availability
Size: Your Nameplates should be as big as possible so that they can be seen but:

  • You must fit 4 name plates on one 8.5 x 11 piece of paper or card (see the example)
  • You must have two of your name plates that are no more than 1 inch high (That’s about 48 point font) because they will be attached on the sides of your portfolio
  • You may make one nameplate and copy/paste it 3 times or you can make 4 different designs ( though the more effort you put in, the better your grade!!)

 Procedure:

  1. Use your chosen software to design your nameplates
  2. When you are done designing, print out a draft copy on regular white paper
    1. Review the draft
    2. Does it look good?
    3. Does it all fit on one sheet of paper
    4. Did you spell your name correctly? (haha)
  3. If it looks good then insert the card in the copier and print out your final (this will be demonstrated)
  4. Then sign out an xacto knife and cut out your 4 nameplates
  5. Finally go to the hot glue station and use a small amount of hot glue to attach your nameplates
  6. There should be a name plate on each side
