Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA) Periods 1 and 3

Instructions: Please get the Wood framing systems hand out from the teacher. Then open up the wood framing systems power point presentation (2.1.1A) that is located in your Z drive CEA unit 2 folder. Use the information in the power point to assist you in completing the diagram of the house on the second page of the handout.

Place your name on your activity and put away in your portfolio. I will check you off for this activity at the start of class on Thursday, December, 19th.

You will use this document to study for your quiz on Friday.

Principles of Engineering (POE) Period 2

Instructions: The next project is going to be the design and construction of a Stirling engine. Use the Internet as a resource to find the answers to the following questions:

1.     What is a Stirling engine?

2.     Who invented the Stirling engine?

3.     What problem was the inventor of the Stirling engine trying to solve?

4.     What is the initial source of energy that Stirling engines use to do work (rotate)?

5.     Type Stirling engine in a Google search and then click on the Wikipedia.org link.

a.     What are the differences between and Alpha Stirling engine and a Beta Stirling engine? Complete the following to show these differences

                                                              i.      Use engineering notebook paper and a pencil to complete two diagramed sketches of these two engine types?

                                                            ii.      Add color to enhance your sketches

                                                          iii.      Label the components of the two engine types including the following : expansion cylinder, compression cylinder, regenerator, displacer, power piston, and flywheel

                                                         iv.      Use the diagrams at Wikipedia.org to assist you.

6.     Place your question answers and sketches into your portfolios. These will be checked at the beginning of class on Thursday

Introduction to Engineering Design lesson for Wednesday Decembeer 18, 2013

Instructions: Complete problems 9 and 10 below using  multi-view paper and a pencil. Make sure that you align all your views and copy all the work as shown. Add color to to your drawings the same way that you have done for problems 1 to 8. Put your completed drawings in your portfolio's at the end of class. This work will be checked on Thursday December 19, 2013 (tomorrow!!)

Riding a motorcycle around the world


This image is of a friend who is riding his motorcycle around the world. His name is Steve Harpt and before he began his journey, he was the principal of an alternative school in the southern African country of Botswana which is where he has lived since the 1980's. He has spent the last 1 1/2 years motorcycle touring through Asia. Now he is in South America. This picture was taken in Ushuaia, Argentina. Type this location into Google maps or Google earth so that you can see where this city is located.
